How do I claim from the Road Accident Fund?

When must I claim?

It is important to contact us as soon as possible after the accident. This gives us the best opportunity to investigate the accident and obtain the relevant documentation, including police and medical reports.

You generally have three years to lodge a claim with the Road Accident Fund. If one of the vehicles involved is unidentified, this period decreases to two years. A parent can lodge a claim on behalf of a minor until the minor turns 18.

For what injuries can I claim?

Many injury types may qualify, depending on the long-term effect on the injured person. Brain injuries can be serious and may take time to present themselves.

Can I claim for loss of income?

Yes. Contact us and we can explain how loss of income or loss of support may work in your circumstances.

If we believe we can assist you, we will set up an appointment to meet you and discuss your RAF claim. Where possible, our team can consult with you at a practical location.

If you are satisfied with our offer and agreement to take on your RAF claim, you will sign an agreement appointing us as attorneys of record.

Our claims team obtains important information and assists with the relevant paperwork. This may include RAF1 documents, SAPS accident reports, sketch plans, witness statements, medical records, employment records and photographs of injuries.

During the investigation process, you will be contacted to update you on progress and answer questions.
